TODAY IS NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY...In recognition of this day and as we approach Thanksgiving next week, I wanted to take time out and GIVE THANKS for the opportunity that I had in 1995...I was able to go on a TRIP OF A LIFETIME where I won an essay contest through my adoption agency - Childrens Home Society & Family Services (CHSFS) that allowed me to go back to my motherland, Korea - for the first time since I was adopted (in 1983)...I was just returning home from my trip to Korea this weekend...Cant believe how fast time has flown - I can remember every step of the trip like yesterday. Here is my essay that ultimately led me to discover my cultural and spiritual roots, establish the Mixed Roots Cultural Diversity High School group in Owatonna, MN and now the Mixed Roots Foundation...Its all about IDENTITY, DIVERSITY, and UNITY - I encourage EVERYONE and ANYONE specifically who has been TOUCHED BY ADOPTION to ALWAYS REMEMBER where they come from and know their biological and cultural ROOTS...ENJOY!!
