Taking stock of 2014. It had its ups — marrying my best friend and running/adventure buddy, buying a house, joining a serious gigging band, finishing my solo record, and discovering some new rivers. And there were some downs — sorting out emotions and priorities around interpersonal relationships, especially where they intersect with my values and convictions, and having to find the wherewithal to either cut ties or work to strengthen understanding. All I can do this year is to continue to do my best, and seek enlightenment wherever it reveals itself. New Years Day paddle on the Nantahala, just Emily and me, this afternoon. Enlightenment is a cold splash of water on the face, and the thrill of dancing over waves past rocks and trees. We didnt plan a shuttle, but I asked a tourist couple at the put-in if they were heading south and whether they could drive our car to the take-out, and they did — kind of an unusual request, but I was in a trusting mood. Good way to start the year. Wishing all of you a fulfilling 2015.
