Thank you for your kind replies and interest and I hope you find the below information as promised both interesting and helpful in your 2015 job search. I have been working in senior management for over 15 years now both domestically and internationally and have seen so many fundamental mistakes been made by people in relation to how they approach their job search. Job seeking is somewhat an art form particularly if you don’t have connections that can help you out during this difficult time and there are some tips and tricks that can be applied to make the process easier. Tips: 1. Keep your CV to two pages at a push three but no more, 2. When you write your name on the top of your CV include your middle initial for instance “Mary J. O’Neill”. If you have an MSc/Degree/Diploma, be sure to include the abbreviation after your name; don’t be afraid to promote yourself, you worked hard for those Qualifications. 3. If you have a LinkedIn profile, include your LinkedIn URL in your personal details section. 4. Ensure your email address is professional; clivetheking@hotmail won’t work for you and believe me I have seen worse. 5. You have 20 seconds max to impress or depress the reader of your CV, your introduction or summary section is vitally important and must be directly after your personal details. This section must pack a punch, read like a reference and be written in the third person, for instance “Clive is a senior management professional who has worked for domestic and international manufacturing firms across Ireland and the Middle East”..etc. This subconsciously tricks the reader into the mind-set that what he/she is reading is an excellent reference, it also gives you the opportunity to hit them with your excellent skill-set between the eyes. 6. Directly after your summary section comes your qualifications/education, include it all. 7. In your career summary section, be sure not too waffle, introduce the company, why you took the job, turnover of the company and briefly explain how you progressed during your time there, this can all be done in three lines. When you get into telling the reader what you did there use bullet points and explain the positive impact you had in your role e.g · Reduced waste by 15%, each % represents 2k euro, total saving 30k 8. Ensure your LinkedIn Profile is up to date and is reflective of your CV and Vice Versa, again your summary is vital so too is the description after your name. Get as many recommendations as possible, Above anything else never give in and keep pushing on, know in your heart things will improve and the job you seek will most definitely arrive and the whole process will have made you a much stronger person and candidate, I know how you feel as I was in your shoes last year..
