Thanks to F4Y’s Donald Gillies once again for this excellent piece.. There was once a word that struck fear in the heart of the seats of power, a word that echoed through the centuries even before it was screamed from a tortured actors soul on the celluloid screen...but it has been itself overtaken by events and circumstance, by one smaller but even more powerful. As Westminster doles out all the maybe promises, breaking its own rules as convenient, the lies tripping over other lies, no-one knows who assures who with what or when. Looking for a mouthpiece, a soul with even a hint of honesty, trying to find any politician from Westminster that has the least whiff of corruption, incompetence, scandal, anyone that could even be said not to have a vested interest financially in the continuance of the Establishment. To iterate or re-iterate more promises without vested authority or even agreement from any possible incomers next May...Is there anything they wouldnt do, anyone we could even trust, even just slightly. In 1979 it was Alec Douglas Hume, but lets face it...there is no-one left with his stature or apparent honesty, to even start to plead with us! And remember, to remind our younger readers....we were here before, we were warned it would get worse if we wanted devolution, and those threats were not a fraction on what they delivered to us when the Establishment got its desired outcome. So you have to ask yourself....are they suddenly realising they could get beaten, will they do anything to get us to pull back from the brink, scare us away from the open door we are staring through....if we get faint of heart and look behind, is what we have behind us not even more scary than what might lie before....you got to ask yourself, do we feel lucky? Give them yet another chance to play the games of empire, when they have had so many chances over so many years......I didnt come this far to stop now! Now they are scared, the Establishment in Westminster is scared, even soiling themselves, because for once we have the power. The people have the power and we must use it and use it wisely, use it to change the game, for ourselves, for everyone....So we have that new word....It has a resounding positive sound to it, that word, that one short word. A word that proclaims achievement, success, that can be gasped with relief or screamed with a passion.....so lets hear it screamed from the hills and glens, from coast to coast, from city to farm....I want to hear it resound and echo across the nation, the Scottish Nation, till it shakes the foundations of the seat of empire just as the other word once did!.....for us all!.....that word is ......YES!
