The 10 book challenge is irresistible. I am yet to receive any nomination (theres a plot to rig me out), but still we are good to go: [Correction: Ibrahim Oroni earlier nominated me. I forgot. Cheers brother]. 1. A Grain of Wheat by James Ngugi wa Thiongo.[Oh heaven! The betrayal by Mugo. All along people thought he had been a hero during Independence (Does it ring a bell? It should). The martyrdom of Kihika. Anybody claiming Ngugi is a relic needs to read this novel.] 2. Fragments by Ayi Kwei Armah.(The vanity, the emptiness, the betrayal is forever haunting. Baakos disillusion and despair still stalks me). 3. The Concubine by Elechi Amadi. (The elusive Ihuoma. The accompanying suffering and eventual death of those who seek out her love). 4. In the Fog of the Seasons End by Alex La Guma. (The naked brutality of the apartheid system. The ability of the power structure to get to the bottom of society and destroy the defenseless. Tommorrow we shall commemorate Steve Biko). 5. Petals of Blood by Ngugi wa Thiongo (Chui and his ilk. Neocolonial treachery that continues to date). It baffles me how some people dismiss Ngugi. 6. The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald. (The frantic search for love. The desire to reclaim a past that no longer exists. And the eventual tragedy of losing both love and the desired past). 7. Kill Me Quick by Meja Mwangi. (Urban decay. Materialism. Exploitation and the need to survive by all means.) 8. Autobiography of Malcolm X as Told to Alex Haley (You will never see the White man in the same light again. Forever, you will not forgive the white race for what they they did to black people). 9. The Dumbest Generation by Mark Bauerlein. (The apathy of our generation to read more. Broaden their knowledge. And how technology is turning us into zombies. Its pure platinum! Whoever wants a soft copy, I shall send him/her). 10. How to Euthanise a Cactus by Stephen Derwent Partington (Reading this poetry collection was enjoyable and engaging. The haunting memories of PEV. The struggle of ordinary people against all odds.) As a result, I will nominate Silas Gisiora Nyanchwani, Meshack Adera, Tsar Kwame Mathenge, Hellen Mwambi Masido.
