The 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger was my first car. I actually bought - TopicsExpress

The 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger was my first car. I actually bought it while I was still in Vietnam when I saw it in Motor Trend Magazine as Motor Trends car of the year for 1970. As such I was able to legally avoid sales tax on the vehicle. My dad took care of the purchase for me and the car was scheduled to be delivered in January, 1970. I arrived early returning from Vietnam on December 26, 2014 and it was late at night by the time I arrived in Carbondale, IL. I knew my car would not be delivered yet, but I asked my dad to drive by Smiths Dodge just to see. To my surprise, my car was on top of an auto transport trailer and the driver was sleeping in his cab, waiting for the morning so he could unload vehicles from the transport. 1970 Dodge Dart 340 Cubic Inch engine, 3 speed on the floor, 6,000 red line RPM, shifted from second to third at 80 mph. High speed rear-end would do 143 mph before I backed off the gas pedal. Vehicle would burn the tires and as such would be slower off the line that the Dodge 440 that I raced often, But in the 1/4 mile it would regain the speed and cross the 1/4 mile neck to neck with the Dodge 440 with regular frequency. The longer the run, the better the advantage. Both vehicles were stock from the factory. The cost? Brand New: $2,600.00. My car payments were $71 per month for three years after my initial down payment. https://youtube/watch?v=hExTPvRmAXQ
