The Aldermanic General Committee, of which I am Vice-Chair, met in City Hall yesterday to discuss a proposal from LAZ (Management Firm For the Transit Center) to install two steel roll down doors at the top of the ramp area. Any such physical change or improvement must be brought to the State of Vermont for approval before any action can be taken. The cost would be around $23,000.00 for the two automatic doors which would be utilized late night resulting in a $30,000.00 annual savings in personnel costs at the Center. Special ramp sensors would detect vehicles about to exit and the doors would open automatically. This would still allow late night entry and parking. Additionally LAZ plans to lock the north and west towers at night, but put in a card reader at the Center Street doorway to the passage to the south tower. This would allow parkers to enter the Transit facility and assist in prevent loiterers in the corridor. The Committee voted unanimously to send the concept to the full Board of Alderman for approval. Financing the measure (which would have a payback clause) would come at a later date. Alderman who attended were Jon Kiernan, Matt Bloomer, Melinda Humphrey, David Allaire, myself and Gary Donaghue who is not on the Committee. Ed
