The Australian High Commission is pleased to provide two Australian films, Mrs Carey’s Concert (2011) and The Sapphires (2012), for the Rafi Peer International Film Festival (RIPFF) 2014 to screen on 26 and 27 December at the Al-Hamra Arts Council in Lahore. Mrs. Carey’s Concert (26 December) is about music making and coming of age, about talent and courage, compliance and rebellion. It is about opening minds and hearts to what the world has to offer and discovering the potential within. At a Sydney girls’ school, music director Karen Carey prepares her young students for a concert at the Sydney Opera House. Her greatest challenge will be motivating the unwilling and maintaining a high performance standard from every girl in the school. The film has been graciously provided for the festival by its producer Mr. Bob Connolly and Arundel Productions Australia. The Sapphires (27 December) is an Australian musical comedy-drama based on the 2004 stage play of the same name which tells the story of four indigenous women. The women are discovered by a talent scout who forms a music group named The Sapphires, travelling to Vietnam in 1968 to sing for troops during the war. The film has been provided for the festival by Goalpost Pictures Australia. For information about screening times visit https://facebook/events/1544000475814389/
