The "Backpacks" project - our project for International Visegrad Fund The sum of four roundtables, debates about problems, harmful myths, which sink us to the bottom of our tendency to prefer to be isolated and also they are returning us to unprocessed past. One of the Millennium goals of the European Union is development of cultural competence and mutual understanding. Meeting the fulfilment of this unique goal, each Member State is required to provide intensive information campaign for all citizens about each and single step in the development of this goal, to enhance critical thinking in order to change and reduce the impact of old prejudices and myths, and to provide educational activities towards the younger generations. In Slovakia, we need to understand our role in the European Union and thus to strengthen our self- confidence and pride on our cultural identity. We cannot avoid opening old boxes and emptying moldy “backpacks” to get fresh wind. During this process support by our neighbours is necessary and needed. Through the history of the Central Europe we have to look into our presence so that the result would be a critical, self-confident and truthful attitude of the citizens of Slovak Republic and our neighbours. We are obliged to identify “anti-bodies” that shall help us better and more effectively fight with populist infections that today poison our air in the Central Europe. Some of these mutations are the only disease, which remain in society as selective memory from 19th century. They still survive by hosting elsewhere and gaining power to attack healthy parts our national organisms and ability to cooperate among us and with our European allies. These objectives we would like to provide through project „BACKPACKS“. Our project is supported by a grant from International Visegrad Fund, visegradfund.org. The project is the sum of four roundtables, debates about problems, harmful myths, the stones, which sink us to the bottom of our tendency to prefer to be isolated and also they are returning us to unprocessed past.
