The Big Orange was intended to be a tourist drawcard for the lovely town of Harvey in 1986. 2500 metres of old rail was purchased with some dating back to 1896 from Meekatharra and it was laid in a circuit through the orchards including 4 bridges. A steamesque loco was built with a small diesel motor and 3 bogie coaches were built in Harvey. The railway came up for sale on the closure of the complex in 1994 and the locomotive and coaches were purchased by the Brajkovich family for the Dizzy Lamb Park - a fun park located at Carrabooda, north of Wanneroo where it saw minimal use on the railway there. Closure of this facility in 2000 saw the locomotive & coaches relocated to the Brajkovich family farm. After a visit to Bennett Brook Railway , the Brajkovichs put the wheels in motion which would see Ashley reborn to be a source of great joy to children of all ages at Whiteman Park as the little loco had done before as The Orange Blossom Special in Harvey and as Chug A Lug at Dizzylamb Park. Please forward your photos of any and all of our lost and always remembered quirky theme parks when you get a chance, Cheers Duff.
