The Emeryville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has voted to - TopicsExpress

The Emeryville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has voted to ENDORSE both Measure U and Measure V on this Novembers ballot. Measure U would convert Emeryville from a General Law to a Charter City. Measure V would impost a Real Estate Transfer Tax of $12.00 per $1,000 of the sale price of the property. Emeryville has worked well for decades as a General Law City. However, in California only Charter Cities can legally enact a Real Estate Transfer Tax. Both of these measures are the continued fallout from the Legislature destroying Californias highly-successful Redevelopment Agencies three years ago. Emeryvilles Redevelopment Agency was a nationally-recognized model of creating jobs, wealth, tax revenue and a revitalized community, but Gov. Jerry Brown and his allies in the Legislature were convinced the system was subject to abuse, which it was not in Emeryville. This abolition has greatly hurt our City and has resulted in the loss of jobs tax revenue. Having said all of that, the Chambers Board of Directors has voted to ENDORSE both Emeryville Measures U and V on this Novembers ballot.
