The #EricGarner case makes clear that the issue here isnt police body cameras: Garner was killed on video, and even the video evidence of Garner proclaiming I CANT BREATHE (not to mention the banned police chokehold, or the fact that Garner was unarmed, or the obviously low-level crime that was allegedly (keyword) committed, or the coroners report that the death was a homicide) wasnt enough to convince a jury that maybe, JUST MAYBE it was more likely than not that a crime occurred. The issue that we are dealing with is racism. Systemic. Centuries-old. Evidenced in all major American institutions. But Jake, most cops/jurors/prosecutors//etc. arent racist! No doubt. But it doesnt take most people being racist for a system to be racist. All it takes is a handful of choice people in power supported by a slightly larger handful of those who agree, surrounded by a whole bunch of citizens in denial clinging to facts and personal opinions that make existing in a fundamentally racist society a little bit easier. Racism is real. It exists all around us. And I literally can conceive of no other answer as to why no indictment was returned. Stand up, yall. Get mad. #icantbreathe
