The History of Church of God The church established by the Root of David Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals. The Bible is a steady selling book that has been read by mankind for a long time. Among about 6,900 languages in the world, the Bible has been partially or completely translated into about 2,500 languages. There are lots of denominations and churches around the world and each interprets the Bible slightly differently and teaches its own doctrines as ‘truth’ while the Bible has been translated into many languages. Which church is interpreting the Bible scriptures correctly among so many churches? The Bible says only the ‘Root of David’ is able to interpret the Bible correctly. Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll? But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals. (Revelation 5:1-5) John, who received revelations on the island of Patmos, mentioned ‘the Root of David’ who would open the sealed Bible. In the prophecy above, ‘one who sat on the throne’ is God. Of course, ‘a book in His right hand’ indicates the Bible. However, in this revelation, John said the Bible was ‘sealed’ that no one could open the scroll or look inside. John wept and wept because no one was able to see the mysteries of the Bible. Then, one of the elders said to him that only the ‘Root of David’ would be able to open the sealed mysteries of the Bible. The mysteries of the Bible cannot be revealed by any famous pastors or theologians, but only by the ‘Root of David.’ In other words, we can learn the Bible correctly only at the church established by the ‘Root of David.’ For this reason, the Bible says that only those who seek and fear David can be saved. Hosea 3:5 Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the LORD and to his blessings in the last days. If we do not seek and fear David in the last days, we cannot come to the blessings of salvation. Thus, we need to know who the Root of David is in this age. Revelation 22:16 I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. ‘Jesus’ is the Root of David who is able to interpret all mysteries of the Bible correctly and lead us to the way of salvation. But, is the Root of David, who appears in Revelation 5, the ‘First Coming Jesus’ or the ‘Second Coming Jesus’? Of course, it’s clear that it’s not a prophecy about His First Coming because the book of Revelation was written after the First Coming Jesus already ascended to heaven. A clearer clue is found in the word “sealed.” This prophecy is about the history that the Words of Salvation given by the First Coming Jesus will be sealed and then be opened. Therefore, the Root of David indicates the Second Coming Jesus. However, 2000 years ago, Jesus foretold that many false Christs and false prophets would also appear when He would come again. Matthew 24:3; 24 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. Tell us, they said, when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?… For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible. In these situations, how can we recognize the Second Coming Jesus who comes as the Root of David? It’s possible through the concrete evidence brought only by the Root of David. Isaiah 55:3 Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David [GNT: the blessings I promised to David]. The sure blessings promised to David are the ‘everlasting covenant’ which saves our souls. Therefore, the Second Coming Christ, the Root of David, should have the evidence of the everlasting covenant. This covenant is not the old covenant Moses received from God at Mount Sinai. The book of Hebrews written in about AD 80 talks about the everlasting covenant as below: Hebrews 13:20 May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant [KJV: everlasting covenant] brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep In Hebrews, the Apostle Paul mentioned the ‘blood’ while discussing the ‘eternal covenant.’ This means that the blood is intrinsic to the everlasting covenant. People sometimes write in ‘blood’ to show their unchangeable will when making an important promise. God established the ‘everlasting covenant’ which would not change forever through His blood to promise us eternal life to His people. What is the ‘blood of the eternal covenant’ that is not limited but endless and forever? Matthew 26:26-28 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat; this is my body. Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. These verses depict the Passover Communion. While keeping the Passover, Jesus called the bread ‘His body’ and the wine ‘His blood’, and more absolutely said, ‘This is my blood of the covenant.’ He clearly and definitely expressed His will to give us the forgiveness of sins and the salvation through this. Luke said it’s the ‘new covenant’ while describing the same scene. Luke22:20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. Therefore, the everlasting covenant is the Passover of the new covenant made with Jesus’ blood. This is the concrete evidence David is to bring with him. Thus, the one who brings the Passover of the new covenant with him in the last days is the Root of David the Apostle John saw in revelation. No one except the Root of David is able to interpret the Bible correctly. If the Bible is interpreted by someone who is not the Root of David or who does not bring the Passover of the new covenant with him, he will not escape destruction. 2 Peter 3:16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. The Second Coming Christ, who comes as the Root of David, is able to interpret the mysteries of the Bible that no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth can. Therefore, the true church which interprets the Bible correctly is the one established by the Root of David who brought us the Passover of the new covenant. In this last day, the Church of God World Mission Society was established by the Root of David, Christ Ahnsahnghong.
