“The History of Heritage-making at the Inka Place of Origin” Gary Urton (Harvard University) Stanford University Distinguished Lecture series Thursday, October 24, 2013 - 5:30pm Refreshments at 5:00pm, Location: Archaeology Center, Building 500, 488 Escondido Mall Early Spanish chronicles from the Peruvian Andes identify the Inka place of origin as the site of Pacariqtambo. This talk considers, first, the geo-political, ritual and economic events and processes whereby a place near Cuzco, the Inka capital, came to be identified as the origin place of the Inkas, and second, the implications of its identity, as the site of Pacariqtambo, for people living in this town from colonial times to the present day.
