The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “There is no one among you but there has been appointed for him a Qareen (companion) from among the Jinn and a Qareen from among the angels.” They said: “You too, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Me too, but Allah helped me against him and he has become Muslim, and he does not tell me to do anything but good.” [Muslim] Every human being is accompanied by several of Allah’s creation. We are accompanied by many angels, and we can increase or decrease their numbers with our deeds. Alternatively, we can allow Jinn Shayateen to flock with us or chase them away. This hadith tells us about the Qareens that accompany each of us from birth to death. There are two Qareens for each person. One is a Jinn who incites us to do evil, while the other Qareen is an angel who helps us to do good. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) says in the Quran: “And whosoever turns away blindly from the remembrance of the Most Gracious [Allah], We appoint for him Shaytaan to be a Qareen to him.” [43:36] This Ayat further guides us in what we can do to overcome the whisperings and incitement of the bad Jinn Qareen. It tells us that remembering Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) and taking guidance from His Book – the Quran – is what is needed to stay in control over the Jinn Qareen. The one who turns away from the remembrance (and obedience) of Allah is controlled by the Shaytaan. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has appointed one angel for each person just to offset the dirty work of the Jinn Qareen. It is now up to me, who I allow to influence me – theJinn or the angel.
