The NFL is always considering new rules and other changes to the game, usually for the purpose of player safety. But a new possible change would do nothing but maybe speed up the game and give the place kicker less work to do. The leagues Competition Committee is proposing getting rid of the extra point attempt – that annoying little kick after a touchdown thats become more of a formality than anything seen as exciting. The idea behind losing the PAT is that the kick has become virtually automatic for kickers and having it is just a waste of time. This past regular season, the extra point attempt was missed only five times out of 1,261 tries. Thats a 99.6-percent accuracy rate. One proposal would automatically make a touchdown worth seven points, but the team would still be allowed to run or throw the ball into the endzone for an 8th point. If that attempt fails, then their touchdown would be worth only six points. (Deadspin SO,,is this a good idea or not and why?
