The November show is just around the corner, this Monday, 3rd November. Following is a run down of whos taking part this time. I’m not in it this time, apart from accompanying singer of Greek music, Leon Silver on one song, so the standard should be even higher! I usually sit at the back at a table with lots of electrical stuff. Being the boss, I get the worst seat in the house! We’re at the control desk because we paranoid control freaks don’t like being stared at by the audience! Just kidding! We need to hear what the audience are hearing in order to get the levels right. Paul Rushton, accomplished musician and singer, is the sound manager, working the controls on the mixer desk, that board with hundreds of knobs and switches. I occasionally throw in my oar and ask him to bring a voice up when the instruments are too loud etc. I can work the desk, but have a propensity to get confused, turn the wrong knobs and crack all the windows. When Paul performs with his fabulous Latino group, Los Chancleros, I have to work the desk and hope the spirit of forgiveness pervades. In spite of this, Los Chancleros are a successful, working band! So here’s a run down of Monday’s line-up: Singer of Greek songs: Leon Silver. I already told you about him; he’s special, not so sure about his accompanist though. The Latvian Singers, a ‘first’ for One World Club; we’re absolutely delighted to welcome this splendid group, and cannot thank them enough for sharing their culture with us. The Rhythm Blasters. This Punjabi drum band will normally play for Indian weddings etc. for a professional fee. We are just so lucky that leader Bobby Riyadh has agreed to this, their first One World Club performance at Cruck Barn since our opening five years ago. Making the journey from Kent, Benny Silver is a rap artist with a difference. Give him a subject and he can make up a rap on the spot. He performs with you rather than to you. MK Chinese Fan Dancers; another ‘first’; what a special night this is turning out to be. Thank you, Jen Jen and the group for making this happen. The Hope; What an inspiration! Who would have thought it possible for people with no home to make their way to weekly rehearsals and become a viable choir to be proud of? Outfield: Charismatic Debbie Murray fronts this ‘get up and dance’ band, turning any show into a party. Whistlers accomplice: Let’s not forget about English roots music. Andy West is one of the most lively and talented whistle players I’ve ever seen, playing two instruments at the same time. This means we can pay him less, although that’s difficult when, like all the others, he’s doing it for free. Ayo: bravely making his first appearance after a long standing back injury, but just look at his earlier appearances on Youtube and you’ll see why I want him back. youtube/user/OneWorldClubMK#p/u/5/h0XTnMEAh08 Details: Monday 3rd November Doors open 6.30 pm for 7.30 pm start Venue: Cruck Barn, Milton Keynes Discovery Centre, Alston Drive, Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes MK13 9AP Entrance free, parking free. Why do I write so much? Because you feel like family and I miss you! See you Monday, Andy Gilbert
