The Phoenix Rise – So and So Can you recall during some of the broadcasts of the big fitness competition in July, the camera and announcers would focus on the leaders at the start of the race, then all of sudden the announcers would proclaim, “FROM OUT OF NOWHERE! HERE COMES….So and So!” Ladies and Gentlemen, I’d like to introduce to you, The Phoenix Rise; the NPGL’s, So and So. While the attention is being focused on the front runners, the Rise, are quietly doing work. The organization has the team living together, guest coaching at local facilities, hiking up mountains, they even have an official denim provider; now how cool is that? To have an official jean! The roster is full of respected athletes with loads of talent; their only hole is not having a body weight specialist on the male side. Marcus Filly is good on the bar but with the exception of their master males, everyone is 200+ pounds. Amanda Goodman and Jessica Phillips are probably the strongest combined females in the league. They are stronger then Stallings & Graham of the Brawlers, Brooks & Jones of the Surge and maybe even McKenzie & Valenzuela of the Reign. Danny Nichols and Nate Schrader combination would compete with Dancer & Canavero of the Fire, Coppola & Urankar/Anderson of the Surge and Rape & Fraser of the Rhinos. You need gymnastics? The Rise will trot our Valerie Calhoun and Amanda Goodman. Ms. Goodman performed most of the backward roll to support in the McKinley match. Ms. Calhoun crushed the freestanding handstands in McKinley to give Danny Nichols his opportunity to close out the race, twice! The league measures the finish times of all the races and includes the women total of race 7 in their tie breaker standings, a total of 12 data points per match. If you look at the tiebreakers for McKinley and Kilimanjaro the Phoenix Rise have finished in the top two in 13 of the 24 measured events. Their opponent in the first round, the NY Rhinos, have finished top two in 6 of those same events. It would appear the Rise may have the advantage going into their match. One area which could use some improvement is in coaching. In the sport of GRID, coaching is as equally important as the athletes on the floor, maybe even more so. Coach Mike Lee, appears to still be feeling out the process of being the floor general. In the first match against the Brawlers, he should have challenged the fault called at the end of mirror, race 2 but he did not. In the race against the Reign, he threw the challenge flag again at the end of race 2 but did not do so on time. He is still on the learning curve and some of the other coaches may be too far ahead, for him to catch up this season. Despite not having a male body weight specialist and a coach still feeling his way, this team may not be, So and So, for very long, they will garner some attention. #HowBadDoYouWantIt #BringYourLunchPail #Gridlife #FasterTogether #ThatTournamnetAtTheEndOfTheSeason Grid - NPGL Gridmaster Boston Iron New York Rhinos Philly Founders DC Brawlers Carolina Crush Miami Surge Phoenix Rise Los Angeles Reign San Francisco Fire #NPGL #PhoenixRiseNPGL
