The Police Department is reporting that Redding is seeing a surge in counterfeit bills, particularly $100 bills, being passed off as legitimate. Police are encouraging the public and businesses to examine money they receive. Most counterfeit bills, when examined closely, are identifiable as counterfeit by the poor quality of printing. Another easy way to detect a counterfeit bill is the use of a counterfeit detector pen from an office supply store. Police suggest if you are unsure of the authenticity of a bill, decline to accept it.
