The Reality of the Arab Spring: The ‘Arab Spring’ has come to describe the popular uprising against the dictatorships in the Muslim lands and the struggle to replace them with legitimate rule. As the tyrants fall one by one, a window of opportunity has arisen for the Ummah of Muhammad (saw) to finally re-establish her Islamic way of life. The political decisions that are made now will determine whether the Muslims are liberated to live under the justice and mercy of Islam, ruling completely with the Shari’ah as Allah (swt) commands or whether she remains shackled by kufr for generations to come. The Ummah has taken great strides towards the correct direction but a dangerous deception threatens to lead her astray. What began with Tunisia when Bouazizi set himself on fire in protest at the oppressive regime snowballed to include the masses – quickly similar protests carried over to Egypt, Libya, Yemen and now currently engulfs Syria. The Ummah has seen Ben Ali flee to the dictators safe haven of Saudi Arabia, Hosni Mubarak faces a show trial, Muammar Gaddafi killed and Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen step down after attempts on his life. Bashar Al-Assad will soon fall too. Now with them gone, what ruling system are the Muslims calling for to replace the dictatorships? How will the laws that govern the people be decided?
