The Shepherd Assembling His Fold! I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: Micah 2:12a A shepherd needs sheep of his own, but how would he get them or find the ones that would be right so that he could mold them into a flock. He may go to places where they sell sheep, looking for just the right kind without disease or disfigurations. The owner must also be willing to sell them at the right price. They must be the best he can find at the lowest price! There may be many good looking sheep but will be left behind by this shepherd for those reasons. While shepherds here in the world look for the best, this Shepherd brings in the most unlikely ones. Slowly one by one he brings them together from all different places even different countries until he has the complete number of sheep. Isaiah 66:18, “For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.” How are these sheep found? By hearing the gospel. God calls and equips sinful men to herald forth the message of salvation of death in Adam and life in Christ. God sent His Son into the world to bring life in the midst of death. The cross of Calvary on which Jesus (the Son of God) died, brought life to His people through His death. This is the message prached by His servants, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” John 1:29b). This message goes out to many but is rejected by most, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12-13). The Holy Spirit uses the Word to quicken or make them alive to hear the Shepherds voice to see their need to flee for refuge to Jesus Christ as their only hope. They all have one thing in common they are chosen by the shepherd to become His. None of the others will come into this flock. This is a picture of how the Lord works, gathering His people unto Himself. Ezekiel 34:11-13, “For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country.” Have you heard of this only Name by which we must be saved? Many have but that will not save you! “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). Has sin become sin in your life? A Savior will not be needed until we lose our own righteousness! This is worked by the Spirit of God to make us alive to God needing the blood of Jesus to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Are you alive or are you dead?
