The Sierra Club of BC, Malaspina Chapter, is hosting two local speakers whose work focuses on our water and our environment: Anna Johnston, staff counsel at West Coast Environmental Law and Filmmaker Jeremy Williams. Last year, the federal government began an unprecedented attack on Canada’s oldest and most important environmental laws. Now, our fish and waterways are under further threat of having their legal protections eroded more. Join Anna Johnston, staff counsel at West Coast Environmental Law, in a discussion of amendments to Canada’s environmental laws and what they mean for fish, habitat and communities. wcel.org/ Award winning filmmaker Jeremy Wiliams will screen a portion of his current documentary film project River Voiceswhich is focused on the Tsilhqotin (aka Chilcotin) region of BC. Grizzly bears, salmon, wild horses, as well as First Nations culture make this area magical. The Tsilhqotin People have been fighting to protect this area for 150 years and have set legal precedents that challenge Canada’s authority. rivervoices.ca/
