The Threshing Floor Bible Studies r Study Focus: Steps to Spiritual Maturity Topic: The disciples lifestyle Sub-Topic: The purpose of power Study: Luke 9: 51-55 Yesterday we learnt that the disciples priority must be seeking the kingdom of God first before anything else. As much as God wants the best that life has to offer for us, we mustnt place it ahead of our relationship with Him. That is why I dont agree with anyone that says the ministry that God has committed to his hands is to make people rich or deliver people and never emphasise salvation/holiness. The fellow is running an organisation that is preparing people for hell. We must get our priority right. Today we will be studying verses 51 to 55 of Luke 9. In the passage Jesus was rejected in a particular village and some of the disciples got angry and asked him if they should call fire down and destroy the place. Jesus was alarmed and rebuked them sharply and stated Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy mens lives, but to save them. We are not in the business of using the power of the Holy spirit to oppress people. It is not to self perpetuate. It is not for show. IT IS TO SAVE LIVES. I have heard some ministers say If I use my call to curse you.. I wonder which call? Where have they learnt that from Christ? We have heard stories of people charging money for them to pray on handkerchief. The purpose of the power on the disciple is to save lives and it must be used in the spirit of humility. All glory must then be given to God. I feel one of the reason we are not seeing the power in manifestation in the life of many christian is the issue of pride and abuse. God would rather have you go to heaven than give you power that will take you to hell. But when we walk correctly with a humble heart and use the power for its purposes, we can only imagine the height that God can take us. Prayer: Lord take away every trace of pride in me.
