The book of Jude was written in a day of flux and disruption of clear authority. The believers whether of a local church or geographical area is uncertain were facing massive invasion of error through speculative theology and philosophy which produce heresy. Due to this environment Jude is a frightening book about the recurrent danger of error, rebellion, and judgment. Therefore, believers were always on guard, and thus “Looking” for protection from their “Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. The word “Looking in this verse is defined as wait for, receive to oneself, to receive, favorably, accept, and look for. Jude reveals in verses twenty and twenty-one the presence of God the Father, Lord Jesus the Christ, and God the Holy Spirit or three personal manifestations of the Triune God Head. This is significant because Jude instructs the saints in verse twenty to pray in the Holy Spirit, then progressive to encouragement regarding keeping the love God the Father, and then presses forward with a proclamation of “Looking” to the mercy of Jesus Christ unto eternal life. This trio of encouraging promises were espouse to combat the pervasive heresy that the saints had to confront daily. Although, heresy may not be as harsh in the United States, it is pervasive for our brothers and sisters in other countries. Daily Christians are being martyred for their faith in Jesus the Christ; therefore, “Looking to mercy in him unto eternal life is meaningful and very relative in this season. As we prepare to come before The Triune God Head in the sanctuary on this Sabbath let’s posture ourselves in the form of prayer that is “Looking” forward to the mercy which leads to eternal life. Hallelujah, our hearts must pray in the Holy Spirit in the midst of trials to keep the love of God the Father in our souls, because our spirits are “Looking” for the mercy of Jesus Christ mercy unto eternal life.
