The boys are back in business! The last couple of workouts with them was spent pulling logs out for their new winter shelter, which honestly did NOT go well. Since they got home from our adventures at Eastern States, the boys have been especially lazy, so hooking them onto a good sized log wasnt the first thing on their mind. We got them to pull what we needed them to (for the most part) and got a good start of their winter shelter (pictures will be posted as it gets further along). Today went much better than the last two times, seeing as I only had to deal with half of the usual trouble. And thats because today was Olivers first time in a single ox yoke! My mentor came by the farm with the 8 single yoke he used with his team when they were much smaller. I rode Oliver up to the farm from the pasture and met my mentor there. Before we could start to gather what equipment we would need, a woman and her husband pulled into the driveway to say hello to Oliver. We ended up chatting for a while and boy was she nice! She was a horse person who was very excited to meet a steer that was as photogenic, friendly, and rideable as her horse was. Oliver even gave her a hug! After we said good bye to our new found friend, we headed down to our arena to fit and set-up Olivers new equipment. On went the yoke, the bow, and the trace and then we were off! He was a little hesitant to pull the small log we hitched to because of his pulling experiences the last few times he worked, but soon he was going like a pro. I even got him to trot! We were able to go through a course and then he just pulled the log around for a bit. What a good boy he was! There were only pictures this time, but we will post a video soon!
