The differences among computer and technology people can be either - TopicsExpress

The differences among computer and technology people can be either subtle or apparent but have always interested me. For instance, the difference in knowledge between a gamer/content-creator and a computer science undergraduate. The obvious, shallow difference is that one (the CS major) tends to have more theoretical expertise whereas the other has more hands-on experience. Theres also the obvious distinction that one will be very gaming and content-production oriented while the other will be more focused on computer science in general. More subtly though is the culture and, oftentimes unexpected, overlaps or lack thereof between the two cultures and peoples. Generalizing this to related fields of interest such as science or engineering sees similar phenomena. (Im a bit in the middle in this aspect, with respect to computer science, at least, being an, at best, mediocre repair person, gamer, and content-creator as well as a decent theorist/generalist)
