The government has announced new axle load rules in a bid to ease congestion at weighbridges. Transport Cabinet Secretary Michael Kamau made the move as transporters faulted the Kenya National Highways Authority for contracting a single firm to manage weighbridges. According to the new rules, transporters will be required to load a maximum of 52 tonnes for a six-axle truck, spread over all the axles, as opposed to the initial maximum gross weight of 48 tonnes.
