The infant child of a couple arrested in Monongalia County is found buried in the George Washington National Forest. Saturday at about 5pm West Virginia State Police out of Morgantown contacted Hardy County troopers after the arrest of 32 year old Joseph Christy and 26 year old Summer McDaniel both of Missouri. Christy is wanted in Colorado Springs, Co. He allegedly stole a vehicle from Iowa. When Morgantown Police noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at Sheetz in Sabraton they learned it was stolen. After a brief chase along I-68 and I-79 Christy was arrested without incident. Four children ages 11,7,4, and 2 were also found in the car. Christy and McDaniel were both charged with child neglect. None of the children were wearing seatbelts in the vehicle. During the investigation troopers learned Christy had killed an infant child and buried the baby at a campsite in Hardy County. At about 7:30 Saturday night Christy led troopers to the shallow grave of his 26 day old son Ashter Christy. His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. A preliminary investigation has lead officers to believe the focus of the case will be toward child neglect resulting in the death and possible murder of the baby.
