The israeli police has arrested six young men in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khdeir. They are also suspected of the attempted abduction of a young Israeli Palestinian a day before Khadeir was abducted and murdered. In a rare press conference on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the murder, describing is as reprehensible and Loathsome. He stated that he saw no difference between terrorist activities carried out by Jews or Arabs, and would fight each with equally a heavy hand. We do not distinguish between acts of terrorism, and we will react harshly against both. Netanyahu further stated that Israel would prosecute the suspects in the murder of Abu Khdeir to the full extent of the law. Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said in a statement Sunday that he was embarrassed and horrified by the brutal murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir. He also called on treating the boys murderers like all other terrorists. The lowly murderers do not represent the Jewish people and its values, and we should relate to them in the way we relate to terrorists, he said. We shall not allow Jewish terrorists among us to disrupt the fabric of life between different groups in the State of Israel and to hurt the innocent only because they are Arabs. Such acts and those similar to them do damage to the State of Israel and give it an ugly face, and we must fight their perpetrators with an iron fist. Israeli President Peres described the murder of young Aby Kheider as “reprehensible. “If Jews murder, they will be brought to justice like any other criminal, there is no privilege, the law is equal to all and all are equal before the law, Peres said. He emphasized that Israel does not “distinguish between blood and blood. The murder of a child is reprehensible, regardless of the religion or nationality of the child.” Economy Minister Naftali Bennett also commented on the arrest of the suspects, and said a new law which bars terrorists from parole will also apply to the boys killers. We will demand the Terrorist Law we put forward be applied to the boys killers, Bennett said, calling the murder heinous and decrying it as anti-moral and anti-Jewish. Finance Minister Yair Lapid also slammed the murder of Palestinian teen Mohammed Abu Khdeir, saying we must all feel shame at the new recent events ... Israel cannot allow itself to stay quiet in face of the murder of a young innocent Arab youth at the hands of Jewish murders. We cannot differentiate between blood and blood. Radicals attempts to take the law into their own hands harm the social fabric of Israeli society. Samaria Chief Rabbi Elyakim Levanon said that the murderers of Abu Khudair “should be sentenced to death ... Unfortunately, it is becoming clear that Jews are behind the murder of the Palestinian teen,” Israeli media cited the rabbi as saying. “Jewish law has no mercy in the case of a brutal murder, whether that murder is of Jewish teens or of an Arab teen.” Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch released a statement condemning the murder. “The State of Israel is a country that abides by, and enforces, the law, and will continue to take determined action against all those who violate the law,” the statement read. “I ask that everyone show responsibility and work to prevent further disturbances.” Aharonovitch continued: “This was a shocking and unacceptable act which any sane person, certainly in a strong and democratic country such as the State of Israel, must strongly condemn.” Other prominent politicians and public figures have spoke out in similar terms. Israel Ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer compared Israels handling of the Jewish murder of Palestinians to the Palestinians handling of the reverse. “They will not be hailed as heroes,” said Dermer. “There will not be public squares named after them. In the course of a visit by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat at the home of Naftali Fraenkel, one of the three Israeli teens kidnaped and murdered in the West Bank, Barkat called Hussein Abu Khdeir, the father of Mohammed Abu Khdeir and offered his condolences. Yishai Fraenkel, Naftali Fraenkels uncle likewise expressed his condolences, and added that he was horrified to learn that Khdeirs murderers were Jews. The two agreed on a visit by the families of the three Jewish victims with Abu Khdeirs family to express their condolences over the death of their son. --- * --- I here express my shame and sorrow that members of my nation have perpetrated such an horrifically cruel act, and my pride at my nations stance in response. I wish the Kheider family comfort in their terrible sorrow, as I do to the families of the three Israeli teens. It is high time to bring an end to the endless saga of revenge, hatred and conflict. It is time to compromise and to live side by side in mutual harmony. Our nations would benefit from such cooperation far more than they could if either side finally succeeds in vanquishing the other. Above all, we stand before God and will have to render account to him: have we truly sought gracious justice -- the kind that refuses to strive for the absolute satisfaction of our own national interests, regardless of the impact these might have on those of others? National selfishness will be met on the Last Day with righteous judgement. In the love and fear of God,let us strive together for peace rather than strive with one another.
