The latest on the clock project: thanks to all for comments about how to get my old BBC Bush House broadcast clocks going again and for your thoughts about what kinds of open data might be suitable for the red, green and white lights on the mount below the clock face. Anyway, between them, Peter, Stew and Bryan seem to have converged on a solution. A quick reminder, that I needed to build a box that could send short pulses to the clocks every second. I’d achieved it with Arduino / relays. That’s cool but relays are a bit noisy and would wear out within a week. Stew eventually uncovered a circuit involving four transistors and bunch of diodes. A visit to the local components shop and a Sunday afternoon circuit building later and ta-dah! A solid state solution that seems to be working. And for considerably less than I’d have spent on a specialist ‘master clock’ for hundreds of pounds. Listener power at its best ☺ Ooh the video has no sound btw. Which is part of the point. Lovely silent solid state electronics…
