The members of the Keystone Fire Company No.1 of Shillington are proud to announce the Company has been awarded a FEMA, Assistance To Fire Fighters Grant Award in the amount of $427,500.00. The primary goal of the federally administered program is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. The financial assistance provided in the grant will assist the Company in fulfilling its mission by protecting the lives, property and the environment of the residents and visitors of the Borough of Shillington, from fire, hazardous materials and other disasters, using the most modern techniques and technology available with the highest regard for the safety of personnel and the public. The grant will be used to purchase a new engine which will replace the current 1982 engine. The new engine will provide improved firefighter safety by allowing all personnel to ride inside of the vehicle, provide versatility in emergency operations, and allow for more efficient use of space and equipment. Members are working diligently to review department needs and develop specifications so that the purchasing process can meet the requirements of the federal grant process including the time requirements imposed by FEMA. The Company would also like to extend its sincerest appreciation to Past Fire Chief Scot Landis for his tireless efforts in researching, writing and submitting the FEMA grant application which resulted in this FEMA award. Scot’s perseverance has paid off, not only for the Company but ultimately for the residents, business owners and visitors of the Borough of Shillington.
