The news is high-frequency activity that rides on low-frequency mistakes. That is, our predecessors have made mistakes long ago and the news doesnt really question that. Instead, it keeps harping about petty issues that dont matter so much if the original sin of our predecessors isnt set right. Lost in the high-frequency nonsense, even we end up building on the low-frequency sins. It is really this sort of a sentiment that led me to write The Pyramid of Corruption. I found this talk by Alain de Botton quite interesting. I think he comes to rather simplistic conclusions on linking the news with art, but his point that we dont know how to deal with all the news around us is very valid. Worth a watch.
