The other day somebody asked me as to how i handle students evaluation. I replied, I bleed. Even if the evaluation is 90% positive I still focus on the negative remarks. Looking back, students evaluation is the most unreliable and cheapest mode of assessing a teachers performance. Students are highly subjective, some have smarter-than-thou attitude, others sip-sip, most wanted a teacher who would entertain them with jokes and antics. The most reliable but often most painful comments/evaluation for a teacher comes from the college dean, the university president, graduate professors, thesis panel, publication reviewers, conference commentators, godlike scholars in the field, funding agents etc... Students evaluation will pale in comparison. So better enjoy what they are saying about you as a teacher. With a barrel of salt and a humble heart change for the better. Dont just disregard what they are saying, simple minds also have wisdom. But above all laugh and smile.
