The photos show a hygiene promotion session taking place in Matanda. The session is led by a team of Health Surveillance Assistants. One of the HSAs, Thokozani, looks really good in her new wraparound, showing the photos of the new elected President, Peter Mutherika and all the previous presidents, and her top in the colours of the Malawi flag. The villagers are doing an exercise Planning for Change, in which they draw pictures of steps which need to be taken to move from the current position, where open defecation is common, to one where there is hygienic sanitation. In the picture the women are presenting the pictures they have drawn. The changes are overseen by a water committee, who you can see standing in line in the photo. They had just been elected at the meeting. The village chief is sitting nearest the camera.
