The plan of attack that Hammel is going for tomorrow is called the Ross Method. He plans to remove the cow aortic valve that Katie had put in last July, and replace it with one of her own other valves, and then replace that other valve with a human donor valve. With Katies current aortic valve being a cow valve, its such a foreign entity in her body that theres no way of ever getting all of the bacteria off of it. Hammels hope is that by using a human donor valve and completely removing the cow valve, Katies body will recognize the tissue better and have a friendlier relationship, Ill say, than the one shes currently involved with. The major risk that comes with this surgery is mainly because Katies body has already been through so much. We hoped she wouldve been able to heal and recoup more, getting more of the infection out before doing the valve replacement, but this vegetation crap creeped up this morning and decided to start building its own city. There will also be cleaning of bacteria off of the aortic roots. A very VERY long day is in store for tomorrow
