The political situation in Sweden is so depressing I decided to - TopicsExpress

The political situation in Sweden is so depressing I decided to make a list of performances that mean a lot to me. A top 10 list, sort of. Thinking about this makes me stronger. I see meaning. I marked the year I first saw it. The show must go on - Jérôme Bel (2001) This project with a stage full of performers changed me. Moved my way of thinking. It has such a simple structure. The DJ plays a song. The performers illustrate it. And still it explains the world. Is sentimental, honest, ironic and true. All at the same time. I apologize - Gisèle Vienne (2002) First I saw this on DVD. This is Viennes international breakthrough and the piece that opened this geniuses world to me. Her world is deeply amoral, correction. She creates a space were the amorality in us all is displayed. I traveled to Paris to see it and meet her. Pre-study for Hamlet - Jens Östberg (2011) This convention critical rework of Hamlet in pretend Danish is a masterpiece. On so manly levels. Contact Gonzo - no title (2013) I was totally unprepared for the endorphin chock that this performance gave me. This take on improvisation where fight club is an easy reference (with in the performance I saw musician Testuya Umeda) totally blew me away. A rush of happiness goes through my body just thinking about it. First Night - Forced Entertainment (2001) This piece made me start Perfect Performance - the festival - when I saw it. Lived with it. (The same year as I saw A show must go on. These pieces have a lot in common to me. They try to define the theatre space as a room where we work together.) After seeing it in Kunstenfestivaldesarts I was both happy and sad at the same time. Sad because I would never have a chance to talk to anybody in my hometown about it. It was sold out. Big success in Brussels. But far far away from theater Stockholm at that point. I decided to try to change that. Mette Edvardsen - Black (2011) I think this is perhaps the hardest thing you can do on a stage. One performer, one idea. Bam. The stringency of this piece makes it a masterpiece. I presented it my first year in MDT. I hold my breath thinking about it. Especially the end. Edvardsen repeats three words to paint the room. But end with only one. Black. Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio - tragedia endogonidia - Brussels (2001) The force that these images of a child, an old man and a bloody body on marble floor, hits me is so strong. What would I do without art? How do people do it? Margret Sara Gudjónsdóttir - Soft Target (2012) The concentration, the loneliness, the build up. Such a strong, angry, hopeless portrait. Halla Ólafsdóttir & Amanda Apetrea - Beauty & The Beast (2011) This roller coaster ride of a performance takes the conceptual into a new level for me. It fun embarrassing and in your face. It somehow defines my first years in MDT. Cuqui Jerez - The Croquis Reloaded (2009) Such an impressive performance. Memento for theater. A moment in time. Nature Theater of Oklahoma - No Dice (2007) Put absolutely normal everyday things together. Movement patterns, gestures, everyday conversation. It might be the craziest thing you will ever see. Philippe Quesne - Swamp Club (2013) I have followed Quesnes work. Most above are first loves. This is last. I devoured his crazy crazy world. But I thought I have seen it, lived it. And loved it. And was a bit fed up. Bang. Ok I give up. Even crazier and even more lovable. Scenic intelligence. Still impossible to see in Stockholm. What can you do.... Miet Warlop - Mystery Magnet (2012) The darkness of Warlop is so profound. We enter a amusement park of ideas colors and characters. Underneath trembles a lost soul. So strong. Strong. Ok now I feel better.
