The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, which was to be conducted today between Opposition political parties with regard to the Common Candidate, has been postponed. Earlier it was decided that the convener of the People’s Movement for a Just Society, the Venerable Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thero, the convener of Pivithuru Hetak, the Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero, former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, former chief justice Sarath Silva and several Opposition political parties and organizations would sign the MoU. The MoU, is expected to include the following points: the abolition of the executive presidential system within six months, the implementation of a 19th Amendment to the Constitution, and the establishment of independent commissions.
