The standoff over a close presidential election in El Salvador - TopicsExpress

The standoff over a close presidential election in El Salvador continues. Both candidates have claimed victory. Sound familiar to any Americans out there? It looks like the countys electoral tribunal is leaning toward Salvador Sanchez Ceren, Farabundo Marti Liberation Front candidate and former rebel. Norman Quijano and his backers are calling for a whole new election. But over the past week of drama, both campaigns have alternated attacking the non-partisan electoral tribunal based on which way they thought the winds were blowing. So, no matter who wins, Salvadoreans lose, as a necessary and impartial institution takes a beating on the altar of partisan victory. Again, sound familiar to any Americans out there?
