The story of Polish migration to Scotland since early in the 19th century is well known. Far less appreciated is the story of the Scots who travelled in the opposite direction. From the late 14th century until the early 20th century, thousands of Scots migrated to Poland to seek fame and fortune. During this period, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow and other Polish cities experienced the growth of significant Scottish communities. Scotland goes East: the migration of Scottish people to the Kingdom of Poland will tell the largely forgotten story of those Scots, who as pedlars, soldiers, merchants, farmers, administrators or scholars established a successful migrant community that was to be highly respected by the rulers of Poland.
