The suburb in Upper Hutt known as Totara Park consists of land - TopicsExpress

The suburb in Upper Hutt known as Totara Park consists of land that formerly made up (Bert) Whitemans Farm. In 1917 an ornate suspension bridge designed by Joseph Dawson was opened to allow easy access to this area. Maoribank Bridge, as it came to be known, was originally able to carry automobiles and trucks, but was eventually restricted to pedestrian traffic only. In the early 1990s it collapsed during a flood - Totara Park still required a second access bridge but rather than rebuild the bridge at the same site, a new modern-style suspension bridge was constructed further upstream on the northern side towards Harcourt Park.
