The unemployed gradutes who were arrested and charged to court by the restoration govt of Bayelsa state for embarking on a peaceful protest in exercise of their rights to freedom of expression and assembly will again appear before a magistrate court sitting at Biogbolo beside immigration office at 8:30 am on Tuesday July 30th. This prosecution is an attempt to maintain a comformist order by silencing dissenting voices in the state. It is also a demostration of how steep the base to which human rights have been relegated by the govt. But we must not allow this disturbing high handedness to degenerate to become the norm. We must stand up and speak against dictatorship for in a society where there no basic human rights guarantees, everyone is a potential victim. As J. F. Kenedy said, the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. Let us demostrate solidarity with our Brothers by availing ourselves at the court premises. Pls read this: " first they came for the jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the communist and I did not speak out because I was not a communist. Then they came for the trade unionist and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me." - Pastor Martin Niemoeler
