The western world must wake up, and not give future away to China. While you devote scarce resources on research and development, China binds its time, and steal designs from published works in the free world, or hack the computer systems of firms and institutions. They have also perfected, since the 1970s, the art of buying sophisticated equipment, and then copy or reverse engineer them for local production. Consider all those outsourcing, as well as establishment in China of manufacturing plants by the best and biggest like GM, Siemens, Apple, etc. These crave for market share has ironically made China so successful they are churning out and upstaging the pioneers in advanced solar panels, engines, electronic stuff etc. Now theyve not only mastered the docking systems of modules in space, theyre already planning a mission to the moon, as well as a Space Station of their own. And im in no doubt that China would have been less successful in their quest if the west had been more been more circumspect and pulsed to consider the bigger picture.
