The writing has been visible on the wall for a long time starting in the industrialised west, England was the first polluted country as it wound up the Industrial revolution, with the rest hot and smoking on its heels. I was in London frequently in 1959/60 at Woolich Arsenal and experienced first hand the yellow impenetrable smog, the bequest of the 19th century, then soon after the cities became smokeless zones leaving behind black carbon encrusted buildings and many related deaths, only to become victims of the combustion engine. In Effect we has 150 years or so to learn the lesson. Relief?? Oh no the developing world and the inefficient communist industrial plant have moved up to take over. Meanwhile new ways of destroying our rabbit hutch are developed. Perhaps it is a good time to be old when the future is so bleak
