There are 20 birth control medicines mandated in the Affordable - TopicsExpress

There are 20 birth control medicines mandated in the Affordable Care Act. Out of them, Hobby Lobby has prescription plans that cover 16 of them (including birth control pills). They were fighting to not cover the 4 abortifacients. Yes they won that small battle but I do not see the reason to celebrate. A very small percentage of American companies can now choose to not comply with an even smaller portion of the Affordable Care Act. This still keeps mandates for every other American citizen and company intact. This still raises the cost of healthcare. This is still a gigantic takeover of our healthcare system and a further wedge of government in between us and our own doctors. What I would like to know is why our newly elected Libertarian Party chair, Nicholas Sarwark did not research the subject enough to give an intelligible answer. The highly contested form of birth control in the suit was the morning after pill or plan B both of which are already over the counter medications (just ask your local pharmacist and you can get it no questions asked). Also, equating birth control pills (which Hobby Lobby was not contesting anyway) to condoms is completely asinine. One will change the chemistry of a womans body and can cause side effects like stroke, blood clots and infertility. The other is a latex external device that causes no side effects (there is even a non-latex version in case of allergies). While I am not opposed to them being a behind the counter (nonprescription) drug per se, the responsible thing would be to consult and be under the care of a physician. Which is much different than that of a condom! Libertarians need to stop being defined in the public and in the media by people outside of the party but if this is what we should expect for the next two years, I dont find it much better. I would urge Mr. Sarwark to do a little more research on a subject before commenting. Ignorance of the particulars makes us all look bad.
