There are three self-inflicted wounds that are causing these problems [in Maryland]. Number one is an anti-business climate in Maryland; we rank 41st out of 50 states in business friendliness, and that starts from the top. Number two is the tax structure; we are the seventh-highest taxed state in the nation, weve just increased taxes. The average Maryland family now pays $4,600 more per year. Its caused a mass exodus, people voting with their feet and heading for the exits. Weve got to reverse all those things. And third, its the overburdensome and complicated and constantly changing regulatory environment that has caused a lot of our businesses to not be able to make decisions, and people are just heading for the exits. Here in Montgomery County, you see tail lights heading into Virginia every morning, thats where all the jobs and businesses are heading.
