There is something that I would like to share...Some thoughts. In somewhere America taking my evening walk, bouncing to music, feeling my breathe cleanse my lungs and body of the day I found myself on some street in some town in somewhere America. I suddenly began to feel out of place. As I walked, bouncily and somewhat on my cloud I began to take in my surroundings. I seemed to have found myself in a place I felt I didnt belong. The houses broken, lawns of dirt, drizzled with the trash lost and lingering from the days before, enclosed by unassuming fences. This is not a safe choice I thought to myself. Glancing to my left and gently smiling at two children playing in their dirt/ trash covered secret garden, I began my re-routing. Funny I thought to myself, that I, a 30 year old powerful, independent, woman should feel so uneasy in a space such innocent beings call home. As I turned the corner, as if crossing an invisible threshold, I found myself walking amongst residence seemingly on another planet. In place of dirt, freshly cut and watered green grass. In place of trash, BMWs and Subaru Outbacks. In place of broken homes, lavish castles. Im sure it was just a coincidence that this neighborhood stood beside the military institute. Now, let me just say that I am deeply thankful for those who attend and who have attended and educated at such an institute, because if not for you, would I have...? Feeling sad, confused, thankful and angry I continued on my way; no longer bouncing in my memory foam sneakers, listening to music, making my way back to my cozy, clean hotel. So why am I sharing this? What am I really saying? To be honest, Im really not sure. But, as I continue my studies with this hope to help people... to HELP people I feel lost and unsure what that really means. To care for those living in the back roads on some street in some town in somewhere America.
