There must be some idiot who started that phrase “foreign talents” when Singapore begun the expedition into recruiting people from other nationality of the world into the country as labourers and workers to back-up the shortages of workers in Singapore especially during the economic boom time of the eighties and nineties. And the government is also partly to be blame for it by calling these migrant workers “foreign talents”. Nothing less but most agreed that the term given name to these flocks of foreigners who came to our shore to look for survival looking for jobs here are mere opportunist and desperados who could not even get a decent jobs in their own countries. What more to rate them as the so-called foreign talents when indeed they are actually “foreign jettisoned and trash in their own home land. Maybe only a small fraction were really qualified as foreign talents especially those came from non traditional countries like from the West with highly recognized qualification and specialization for the jobs offered that requires specific skills and knowledge e,g, Hi-tech precision skills with innovative values. Other that that those who came from the region especially from third world countries are mere job seekers seeking for survival and nothing else. And it is better to stop this phenomenon once and for all by just calling these people a mere “foreign workers’.
