This Day in Rock History June 9th 2009: The Who Sings My Generation the debut U.S. album by The Who was selected for the National Recording Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress as the album was deemed culturally significant. 2002: It was announced that Mick Jagger would be knighted the following year for his services to music. 1984: Night Ranger peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with “Sister Christian” which was their first top ten single in the U.S. 1979: The second annual Texxas Jam took place at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The bill included Van Halen, Boston, Nazareth, Heart, Blue Oyster Cult & Sammy Hagar. 1977: George Harrison and Pattie Boyd were officially divorced. Boyd would later marry Eric Clapton two years later. 1972: Columbia Records boss John Hammond signed Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen started to assemble the E Street Band with various Asbury Park musicians. 1972: Elvis Presley began a sold out four night stand at Madison Square Garden. Among those who attended the four night stand included David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Art Garfunkel, George Harrison & John Lennon. 1970: Bob Dylan received an honorary Doctorate in Music from Princeton University. 1969: The Rolling Stones announced that Mick Taylor would be replacing the recently departed Brian Jones on guitar.
