This Weeks Bethpage Tribune: Bethpage PEANUTS, mine Gridiron GOLD. October 12, 2014 . . . The game captains, Brady McElwee and Luke Moerler walked toward the center of the field to welcome Levittown to their home turf . . . there were no further pleasantries for the ensuing four quarters. There was no rust on this team after a bye week and the Peanuts dug deep for a golden win over Levittown Black. The boys of Levittown were no match for the machine that is Bethpage Peanuts Gold. From the first series on offense, it was apparent that Peanuts Gold would not be denied. With the blocking of Andrew Mauz and Francisco Ramos and the rest of the offensive line protecting the backs from the relentless rush of the Red Devils, Jack Poppe ran around the outside, stiff arming two would be tacklers, the crowd roared with excitement and the golden sun seemed to shine a bit brighter as he crossed the goal line to give Peanuts Gold its first lead of the day. After allowing the squad from Levittown to score on its next drive, the defensive unit shut down Levittown on all but one other drive. But the offensive machine was truly running on all cylinders as the pistoning legs of Declan McMorrow and Justin Serio refused to stop, even as they carried the entire opposing team over yard markers. Their strong backs and churning feet took the Peanuts Gold over the goal line and to a much deserved victory. The defense, once again anchored by the unstoppable line comprised of Logan “The Piranha” Poppe, Connor “The Carnivore” Savage, Luke “The Rabid Mongoose” Moerler and Brady “The Barracuda” McElwee, had nine tackles for losses and let up the fewest yards of the season. The backfield contained the run and teamwork was key with Andrew Almonte, James LiPetri and Louis Schneider relentlessly pursuing the runners and each collecting four solo tackles and multiple assists. The next game is away at the home of the always tough kids from Broad Channel. Leave early and cheer on the Eagles Peanuts Gold at 10:30 a.m. at Broad Channel.
