This coming Thursday, Incitec Pivot and DPI Vic are hosting a field trial morning at Donovans Dairy, 689 Tillers Rd, Wye via Mount Gambier, 10:30 - 12:00pm. The trial is addressing the following questions; 1) How much NH3 loss occurs from N applied in granular form as urea, Green UreaNV™, Urea with ENTEC®, and a polymer coated urea? 2) How much loss as N2O occurs from these products (with N2O being an indicator of the potential for greater losses as N2 & NO3-)? 3) What is the biomass productivity benefit potential associated with reducing the losses measured above and what is the N rate response with the different products? 4) What is the fate of applied N (using stable isotope 15N studies to determine where the applied N ends up in the soil-plant system)? Activities on the day: 1) Look at, and learn about, the equipment used to measure NH3 loss (lasers and passive ammonia samplers, 3 D sonic for measuring wind speed etc.) and walk around the NH3 treatment areas. 2) Walk around the small plot trial – look at different treatments. 3) Learn about additional measurement equipment – weather station, soil moisture / temp loggers etc. Discuss why these things are being measured. 4) Guest presenters Charlie Walker of Incitec Pivot Fertilisers and Helen Suter, The University of Melbourne, as well as Rick Jordan, Rick Jordan and Associates.
